A setpoint is the power value the energy management system (EMS) sends to a controllable asset. It is the instruction, not the measurement. In the XENON Operator Dashboard you can now display those instructions in the Historical view, directly on top of the measured power of the same asset. That makes it possible to answer the question behind most charging complaints: did the EMS ask for the power, and did the charge point deliver it?

Where do I find setpoints?
Open the system you want to look at and go to the Historical view.
Select the period you are interested in.
In the chart legend, switch on the setpoint entry for your charging station. It behaves like every other legend item, so one click shows the series and another click hides it again.
The setpoint series is drawn on the same time axis as the measured power, so instruction and result can be compared directly. If a system or a period has no setpoint data, the legend entry is not offered.
How do I read the chart?
The two curves run together. The charge point followed the EMS. Charging behaviour that looks unexpected was requested by the EMS, so the explanation lies in the optimisation, the tariff, or the configured limits.
The setpoint is low or zero. The EMS did not ask for more power. This is normal, for example when the tariff is expensive, when PV production is low, or when a grid or building limit applies.
The setpoint is high, the measured power stays low. The EMS asked for power that did not arrive. The cause is on the asset or vehicle side rather than in the optimisation.
Why can the setpoint and the measured power differ?
A difference between the requested and the delivered power is not automatically a fault. Common reasons include:
No vehicle connected or the vehicle is already full. The EMS can offer power that the vehicle does not draw.
The vehicle limits the charging power itself. Many vehicles accept less than the charge point offers, and some pause charging on their own.
Minimum charging power. Below a certain power a charging session cannot run, so a low setpoint results in no charging at all rather than in a small amount.
Reaction time. Charging stations and vehicles need a moment to follow a new instruction, which shows up as a short offset between the two curves.
The charging station did not apply the instruction. If the difference persists while a vehicle is connected and charging is expected, this points to the charge point or its connection.

Why is my car not charging even though the charge point is available?
Open the Historical view and switch on the setpoint series for the charge point. If the setpoint is at or near zero, the EMS deliberately did not request charging, for example because of the tariff, low PV production, or a grid limit. If the setpoint is high while the measured power stays low, the instruction did not reach the charge point or was not applied, and the case is worth investigating on the hardware side.
Why is my car charging with less power than expected?
Compare the two curves. A setpoint that matches the lower power means the EMS reduced the charging power on purpose. A setpoint that is clearly higher than the measured power means the limit is coming from the charge point or the vehicle, not from the energy management.
Is a setpoint the same as a charging limit?
No. A limit is a configured boundary that the EMS has to respect. A setpoint is the concrete power value the EMS sends at a given moment, calculated within those boundaries. A setpoint can therefore be far below a limit.
Why do I not see a setpoint series in the legend?
Either the asset is not a wallbox or EV charging station, since other asset types are not covered yet, or there is no setpoint data for the selected period. Try a period in which the system was actively managed.
