The XENON Operator Dashboard shows a connection status for your system and for each connected device (battery, solar inverter, EV charger, heat pump, meter). What that status means depends on how the system connects: through a gridBox, or directly through the cloud.
Cloud-connected devices (devices that connect directly without going through a gridBox) always show as Available, since their connection does not depend on a gridBox at all.
Gateway-connected devices are dependent on the gridBox to which they are connected. If that gridBox is unavailable, all its devices show as Unavailable too, even if a device was last seen available. This is expected: without a working connection to the gridBox, we cannot confirm the real state of any device behind it, so we show the safer status.
gridBox status
Status | What it means |
Available | The gridBox is connected right now and sending data. |
Temporarily unavailable | The gridBox has been unreachable for less than 24 hours. This is often short and resolves on its own, for example after a brief power blip, a router restart, or a software update. |
Unavailable | The gridBox has been unreachable for more than 24 hours. If this continues, check its power and network connection, or contact support. |
Unknown | We have not yet received any connection status from this gridBox, usually because it has not made first contact yet (for example right after installation). |
Status changes are detected within moments of a gridBox going available or unavailable. To avoid the status flickering during a quick reconnect or a software update, we wait about 30 seconds before treating a new status as stable. A very brief blip may therefore not always show up as a status change.
Device status (gateway-connected)
Status | What it means |
Available | The device is currently connected and reporting to its gridBox. |
Unavailable | The gridBox has reported that the device is currently disconnected, or the gridBox itself is unavailable (see above). |
Unknown | The gridBox has not reported a status for this device yet. |
Frequently asked questions
Why does my device show as unavailable when I just used it?
If its gridBox is unavailable, every device behind it will show as unavailable as well, regardless of the device's own last known state. Check the gridBox status first. If the gridBox is available but one specific device still shows unavailable, that device itself has lost its connection to the gridBox.
What does "Unknown" mean, and should I be worried?
"Unknown" simply means we have not received any status yet, most commonly right after installation or a first setup. It is not an error by itself. If it persists for a long time, contact support.
My gridBox is unavailable, but I can still control or charge my EV through another app. Why?
Some devices, like certain EV chargers, connect to gridX directly through the cloud rather than through a gridBox. Their status is independent of the gridBox, so they can stay available even if the gridBox is not.
How long before a short outage shows up as "unavailable"?
A gridBox needs to be unreachable for more than 24 hours before its status changes from "Temporarily unavailable" to "Unavailable." Shorter interruptions, like a brief power cut or a restart during an update, typically resolve within that window and do not require any action from you.
What should I do if a gridBox stays unavailable?
Check that it has power and a working network or internet connection, then try restarting it. If it remains unavailable for more than 24 hours, contact gridX support so we can help you troubleshoot.
