This article explains load management for clusters in the gridX Energy Management System (EMS) and how to configure it in the XENON Dashboard.
What is load management for clusters?
The load management for clusters manages power distribution across sites with cascaded fuse topologies — where EV charging stations (EVCS) are connected behind multiple subfuses, each with its own power limit. The EMS ensures that none of the configured cluster limits are exceeded at any level of the electrical distribution hierarchy.
Clusters are used to define the sub-distributions they protect. Each cluster maps to one level of the fuse hierarchy and can be configured independently as Dynamic Load Management (DLM) or Static Load Management (SLM).

How does the load management for clusters work?
The algorithm traverses the cluster hierarchy depth-first, starting from the root cluster (GCP), then processes each child cluster recursively before returning to the root. Power is distributed within each cluster using the same balanced charging strategy as standard load management, ensuring no cluster limit is breached.
Each cluster can be configured independently as DLM or SLM — any combination is supported. Clusters can also be nested within other clusters to reflect multi-level fuse hierarchies.
How do I configure load management for clusters in XENON?
In XENON, go to the Live view - list
Click New Cluster and give the cluster a name
Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row for the cluster to assign assets or edit the cluster
Manage EV stations allows you to assign EVCSs to the cluster, add a meter for DLM clusters and add sub-clusters for nested fuse setups.
Edit cluster allows you to set limits and rename the cluster
After clusters are created, they appear in the list view.
Can I use clusters for visual organization only?
Clusters can also be used purely for visual grouping in the XENON Dashboard — for example, to separate parking areas or charger types — without configuring any import limits. In this case, power optimization continues at the main GCP level or parent cluster.
What are the limitations of load management for clusters?
A charging station can only be assigned to one cluster
PV and battery assets in sub-clusters are not supported
